This talk offers an imaginative yet scholarly exploration of goddesses of the Kamakhya temple site in Assam, India. With images and audio recordings of women residents singing to and about Kali and others, we will consider how female power – both human and divine – is harnessed through stone, song, and ritual as well as nuances within the title, “Yogini” in light of Kamakhya’s past and present.
I am giving this talk as part of the Wander East Yoga Conference, which runs October 25, 26, 27 in St. John’s. For more information and to register, go to http://www.wandereastnewfoundland.com and look under Events. I am scheduled in Session 3, on the 26th 1 to 2 PM.
